As the winter days get shorter and shorter, my urge to curl up in front of the fire with a good book wars with my desire to create gifts and cozy items for myself. I am overwhelmed with ideas. This year I have been determined to use what I have in my stash as much as I can. With this minor constraint, I have thrown myself into a flurry of creation.

Scarves: A wonderful gift and a chance to try new ideas with stash yarns, scarves are a “go to” item in a weaver’s tool kit. This year, I have concentrated bumberetprimarily on the structure Bumberet. It has 3 alternative treadlings that give you very different looks. By combining all three, you can add more structure. Both my handspun and commercial yarn warps look great, but it is a challenge to select just the right weft for each warp. Here are just a few.

Table Runners: I have had a lot of fun working with various cotton warps to create interesting table runners. I like table runners as a way toplaid table runnercape breton in progress work out ideas for larger pieces or pieces made from more expensive materials. This year I worked with a point twill and with a turned twill to get two very different effects.

Shawls: Knit or woven, a shawl is always a lovely item. Ialpaca camel am pretty addicted to knitting lacy ones – they are just so pretty! Weaving works too, of course, and is particularly cozy this time of year. The one shown to the right is out of alpaca and camel and is sosea lacefter and cozier than seems even reasonable.

Yarn: And then, of course, there is spinning. I have been working on my chain p
lying skills. As I build my skill, I am better able to control the color of the yarn I create. In fall, those colors change to warmer, deeper hues – either the rich hues of the falling leaves autumn colorsor the bright colors that warm up the cold, grey days. wild berryWatching them flow through my fingers warms me as well.

All this creating puts a damper on my blogging. I guess I am still looking for the right balance. I have plans for a blanket, I am knitting a little sweater and a big sweater, I have another set of towels on one loom, a table scarf on the other, and I am spinning a luscious braid of reds that makes me smile every time I pick it up. We will studiously ignore the blog post that is still sitting in my SAVE folder because I can’t get it right, okay? I guess, like the song goes: “You’ve got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em…” 🙂 More soon, I promise!
